Description

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you’ve come to the right book, mostly!

In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood, with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls. Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.

From the Hardcover edition.

The book was light and fun, but not deep or meaningful in any way. I appreciated MK's light humor; it was what I needed during a crazy heavy time in my life.

I loved this book! I’m a huge fan of Mindy Kaling ever since I started watching The Mindy Project. The book is equally hilarious. Had a great time reading it and can’t wait to buy her next book!

I was drawn by the funny beginning. However this book gets less interesting from the middle. I still think it is worth reading since there are not that many Asian best selling authors out there, especially a young woman.

I purchased this book to read on a long 14 hour flight. It was so funny and very relatable. She puts on paper what most only think about and wouldn't say out loud. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

This book was amazing. I do not regret the nights staying up to continue reading it. It made me laugh out loud, made question things in life, and made me want to watch reruns of her shows. Mindy Kaling is truely talented in everything she does. If you love her other works, you will not be disappointed.

I really enjoyed the book. It was funny and interesting. She writes how I hear her speak in the show, so it was easy for me to visualize her writing. It seems very genuine.
