This book was a slow starter for me. I would read a number of pages and put it away because it just didn’t capture my interest. After knee replacement surgery I, AGAIN, began reading and this time things fell in place and I couldn’t put it down! I will have to read the next in the series.

period. Hands down. I can only think that people like it because of trends & hype. Just the worst, most unreadable crud ever.

Usually for me the screenplay adaptation of a book doesn't live up to the nuance of its original novel. In this case, I found a massive exception. The movie is miles better than this boring, purposeless writing. No narrative flow, flat storytelling, predictable characters. Entire chapters of pointless plot, and backstory that goes nowhere and adds nothing. I'm well and truly shocked and only finished the book to fully realize just how drastically different it feels from either film version. This could have been consolidated and had 25% removed. The changes made in the film version moved the story along so much better. I have a new appreciation for adaptive screenwriters; someone has made stein larssons story much better. Save yourself some disappointment and just watch the movie. Either one, Swedish or American version, just don't read the book.
