The instant #1 New York Times bestseller

"An unforgettable—and Hollywood-bound—new thriller... A mix of Hitchcockian suspense, Agatha Christie plotting, and Greek tragedy."
Entertainment Weekly

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

  • Easy read, mildly entertaining

The writing is a bit crude at times. Like instead of seamlessly working descriptions of characters into the context of the story, he just lists the description. The story overall is interesting enough but slightly predictable and one of the characters, probably the most interesting one, is never fully developed. It’s a great premise, but just an ok execution.

This book was a serious page turner. I originally bought it just to kill time while I was on a plane, but man was I in for it. This book had such a twisted, unexpected ending. I would highly recommended this book 🙂

The story was just ok. I liked it, but it wasn’t a page turner. I feel like it was worth about half of what I paid to read it on iPad. A little disappointing for the price.
  • A marvelous Piece

This book was by far the best novel I have read all summer (so far). In the beginning, however, the narrator seemed - to me anyway - to be feminine. I thought Theo was a woman at first. Other than that, the story was fantastic, with a shocking ending that I didn’t expect.

I read The Silent Patient in January and I am still thinking about it. I was instantly hooked and could not put the book down. I really loved the short chapters and the way the book read. What a story. I would recommend it to everyone! Alex did a fantastic job, and I can not wait to read more from him.

Total Page turner. Usually books go one of two ways and this one could have gone 276 million different ways.
  • Really disliked

I read this book because it had so many positive reviews on Goodreads. It was shallow and trashy.
  • A Must read!

Easy read enjoyed plot development. Main issue is the rushed ending. Didn’t really tie up the book.
